NAPOLEON MILEJSZO 1918 - 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Napoleon Milejszo on October 10, 2006. Napoleon was born and raised in the town of Vilnius, Poland. He was predeceased by his daughter Barbara and son Witold. He leaves to mourn both immediate and extended family members, which would include many in the Manitoba community. Napoleon, at a young age, had to face many hurdles in his life, which would include the Second World War, and being incarcerated in a Russian War Camp. Through the power of his faith he managed to escape to England. There, he joined the Polish Air Force and obtained his wings and rank as a Flight Sgt. His time in the Air Force was brief as the war ended shortly after. After the war, his travels took him to reside in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he worked at various jobs to support his family. Then in 1952, he and his family had the opportunity to move to Canada. Once Napoleon settled in Winnipeg, he again had various jobs to support his family until one day he found his passion in photography. This resulted in the establishment of Napoleon Studio. His 30 plus years in the photography business had him photograph many images. Those would include people like Queen Elizabeth II, former Premier Edward Schreyer, to countless weddings, baptisms and passport photos. His commitment to the profession resulted in him being one of the founding members of the Professional Photographers Association of Manitoba. Upon retiring, he not only continued his photography of people, but really found a love in photographing images of nature and wildlife. The family would like to acknowledge and send special thanks to all the staff at the St. Boniface Palliative Unit, St. Joseph's Residence and the many friends of Napoleon who came to visit during his time of illness. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. At Napoleon's request a reception will not follow his burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to CancerCare Manitoba or The Father Justin Rosary Hour.
