VICTOR A. KATZ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Victor on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at age 82. Left in deep mourning are his daughter Nina, sister Dorene Haber and brother Philip (Evelyn). Also grieving are his nieces and nephews, Candice (Stan) Wilder, Bernie (Kim) Haber, Laurence (Zoe), Jennifer and Vivi Katz and their children. Vic was a gifted machinist, cabinet -maker, and all-around family fix-it service. He had a passionate love of dogs and was a great story teller. He took loving care of his wife Phyllis during her lengthy illness. He frequently assisted his cousins, Shirley and Max Gross, when they became ill, and visited Max regularly at the Sharon Home until he died. He also helped his older sister Dorene, when she began to need his driving, shopping and general errand running. In the last few years he developed a special bond with his great-nephew Jorel, when he spent many early mornings with him. Jorel loved Vic's tool shop and, through him, developed a keen interest in working with tools. Vic was devoted to family members near and far and became especially close to cousin Zach Gross and his family. Also, in the last few months, after his move to Boulton Bay, he quickly made friends with other residents and staff, all of whom spoke warmly about his sweet manner, his sense of humour, and his determination to overcome all odds. Vic struggled with a severe hearing disability, and a number of handicaps, and tried hard to overcome his final illness. We are very grateful to his surgeon, Dr. Ibrahim, and all of the nurses, doctors, and care-givers on A4 and in the Step-Down Unit on A3 at Health Sciences Centre, who tried so hard to save him. The care he received was outstanding. A graveside service was held on Friday, September 22, at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Neal Rose. Pallbearers were Burton Bass, Ben Gross, Zachary Gross, Bernie Haber, Jorel Katz, Vivi Katz and Michael Wilder. Donations may be made in Vic's memory to a charity of your choice.
