STEPHAN BALANYK Suddenly with family by his side on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Portage District General Hospital, Stephan Balanyk of Portage la Prairie, husband of Yula Balanyk passed away at the age of 80 years. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Ross Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Steve was born in Riverton, MB. on January 8, 1926 to Wazyl and Anna Balanyk. He received his education in Riverton. He worked for the C.P.R. for almost 50 years at various locations in Manitoba and Ontario, retiring in Portage la Prairie as a Mobile Supervisor. Steve and Yula (nee Armstrong) were married for 55 years. His family consisted of many nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly. Steve was well known for his many hours of hard work at the Herman Prior Centre, helping seniors with their income tax. He was very involved with the Portage Foundation, serving as treasurer for many years. His biggest delight was when family would visit him. He will be sadly missed by his wife Yula and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by all of his siblings, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife; Yula and many nieces and nephews.
