GREGORY CHESTER After a lengthy illness, Gregory Chester passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 53 years, with his loving family by his side. He was predeceased by his mother Thelma Chester and father William Chester. He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his loving wife and lifelong partner, Alberta; daughters, Melanie (Brent) and Chrystle (Craig); son Clint (Michelle); grandson Brooks; brothers, Bill (Chris), Randy and Guy (Claudette) along with numerous nieces and nephews. Greg was born in Brandon, MB on January 26, 1953. In later years, he and his family moved to Halifax, NS where they resided for a two year period. They moved back to Winnipeg and took up residence in the Transcona / Elmwood area shortly thereafter. In 1971, Greg took a Commercial Cooking Course through Red River Community College and his cooking career flourished immediately thereafter. Greg worked as a Sous Chef at various top line hotels and restaurants throughout Winnipeg, such as The Hotel Fort Garry, Merteen's and La Vielle Gare. He also worked at various other hotel / restaurant locations throughout Canada during the course of his 25 year career. In 1994, he went back to school and took a Commercial Baking Course at Vancouver Community College, where he was successful in obtaining his Red Seal Papers. Greg had a passion for both cooking and music. In his spare time, he would love nothing more than to write and compose songs on his guitar and for a short period of time, was a member of the Pacific Song Writer's Association in British Columbia during the mid 1990s. Greg was always known as a hard worker and perfectionist when it came to both his cooking and music and was well known for his wry sense of humour. He was well liked by all those who interacted with him and will be sadly missed by his wife and family. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lamba and all of the staff at Ward GD4 for all of their assistance during Greg's stay at the Health Sciences Centre. Please join the family at a memorial reception, honouring Greg's life at Neil Bardal Inc. Funeral Home, located at 984 Portage Avenue. Service to take place at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 18.
