DAVID BRADSHAW STEWART June 18, 1916 - November 21, 2006 Dr. David Bradshaw Stewart was born in Ninette, and graduated in medicine at the University of Manitoba in 1941. He married Ruth Mae Stewart of Killarney in the same year. After serving as a medical officer during the Second World War, he completed a clinical residency in Scotland before becoming the founding professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the new University of the West Indies in Jamaica in 1953. He became Dean of Medicine and co-authored a book on Obstetrics and Gynecology in the tropics. He retired to the Killarney area in 1970 and took a position as a professor of Zoology at Brandon University. He initiated courses on human anatomy and physiology for nursing students, and later served as chair of Zoology. After his retirement he wrote a book on the history of the Ninette Sanatorium. He was deeply interested in social and environmental issues, and retained an enjoyment of music even when he could no longer play his viola. Throughout his life David Stewart inspired colleagues and students through his leadership, teaching and personal example. He is survived by his wife Ruth, four children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
