Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryABRAHAM (ABE) FEIERSTEIN 1932 - 2006 Abe Feierstein passed away on Monday, November 20, 2006 with his family by his side. He is lovingly remembered by his wife and life partner for 51 years, Miriam; his children, Michele (Larry), and Max (Ann); his grandchildren, Aidan and Akiva Fishman, and Elie Feierstein. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Maier Henoch; his sister-in-law Dorothy Fleischner and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Moishe Feierstein and his sister Sara (Sally) Henoch. Abe was born in Kopyczynce, Poland in 1932 and moved to Winnipeg in 1950 where he grew up in the North End. He married Miriam his lifelong partner on November 27, 1955. Abe was a jack of all trades. His first employment was in the needle trade. Years later, he became a kosher butcher. In 1967, Abe and Miriam ventured into their own business which they ran for 35 years. Abe's work ethic was stronger than most and he had little time for hobbies. However he did belong to the Montefiore Club. Above all Abe will be remembered as a gentle, caring son, brother, father, and zaida. Abe put family ahead of himself, a generous man who gave whatever he could to his children. He loved to discuss current events, attend his son's hockey/baseball games, watch football, and play poker with his friends on Saturday night. In good health Abe was active, lively, and loved to go out for dinner, coffee, or visit friends. As a businessman, he and his wife built their business from the ground up on sweat, hard work, and perseverance. He was respected by customers and suppliers alike of whom many became lifelong friends. Abe was a good provider and established a legacy of Jewish tradition, family values, and career excellence. The funeral was held on November 22 at the Chevra Mishnayes Synagogue. Services were conducted by longtime family friend and spiritual leader Cantor Gerry Daien who Abe greatly admired. Active pallbearers were Dr. Larry Fishman, Aidan Fishman, Hymie Leszcz, Seth Henoch, Morris Henoch and Chuck Narvey. Honorary pallbearers were Maier Henoch, Benny Roitelman and Bob Sokalski. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring staff at, Health Sciences Centre GA4, Riverview Health Center and especially Dr. Ken Van Ameyde. Thank-you to all our family and friends for providing meals, attending minyans and supporting us during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Abe's memory to the March of the Living, B204-123 Doncaster Street, 477-7502 or Holocaust Education Centre, Suite C116-123 Doncaster Street, 477-7460.
