GERRY VAN DER MEER Peacefully after a sudden, brief illness, on Saturday, December 9, 2006, Gerry van der Meer, of Ile des Chenes, passed away at the age of 77 years. Gerry was born on June 11, 1929 in the Hazerswoude, the Netherlands. He was the third child in a family of 14. He came to Canada in 1953 with one of his brothers and settled in the Stonewall area. He married Anita on November 6, 1957 and together they had two children, Angela and Len, of whom both Gerry and Anita were very proud. He was crazy about his six grandkids - Lauren, Emily, Caleb, Grace, Tessa and Fiona. Gerry enjoyed working outdoors, maintaining his yard, doing odd jobs to help Len with the family greenhouse business, coffee at Tim's and meeting his senior's club members on Tuesdays. He loved to play cards, cribbage, golf and klaverjas were his favourites. He also loved travel, especially with his wife. He visited family in British Columbia and Europe whenever he could, usually every two years. He leaves to cherish his memory, Angela, Len, Lori, grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, three brothers and five sisters. He was predeceased by his wife, parents, two sisters and three brothers. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 14, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 15, Notre Dame de la Misericorde, on Main Street in Ile des Chenes.
