IRENE SUTHERLAND November 10, 1917 December 27, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister and aunt Irene at the Betel Home in Selkirk on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the age of 89 years. Irene is survived by her sister Dorothy Burzuik and special cousin and friend Lucille Oleschuk. She also leaves to mourn many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Colin and Rosabel Sutherland; sisters Lillian (John) Wasnie, Gertie (Wilfred) Massey and Maud (Jack) Massey; brothers Robert (Nellie) and Lorne (Helen) Sutherland; step-sisters Mildred (Barney) Barnson, Agnes Sutherland, Hector (Freda) Sutherland and brother-in-law Peter Burzuik. Irene was born, raised and educated in Cloverdale, MB. After her father passed away, she helped maintain the family farm. Her first job away from home was on the S.S. Kenora. She then worked for Browns Bread in Selkirk for many years. She continued her career at the Selkirk Mental Hospital where she retired from the Selkirk Linen Service in 1982. She enjoyed bingo, travelling, bowling, gardening, playing cards and her many social gatherings at her home. She was a faithful member of St. Mathew's Church and the A.C.W. in Cloverdale, MB. Irene devoted her life as a caregiver to her mother; her greatest joy was sharing time with family and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Andrew's on the Red Anglican Church with Rev. Stephen Sharman officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Matthew's Church Cemetery, Cloverdale, MB. Her pallbearers will be her nephews Wayne Sutherland, Harold Wasnie, Colin Sutherland, Rick Sutherland, Terry Burzuik and Robert Massey. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations can be made to St. Matthew's Church c/o Rick Sutherland, 780 Pigeon Bluff Rd., St. Andrew's, MB., R1A 4J8. A special thank you to the healthcare givers of the Betel Home, Selkirk for all their kindness and compassion for our dear Irene. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
