ROBERT CARL MAGEE Peacefully on December 31, 2006, following a brief illness, Bob passed away at the age of 82 years. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ethel, his son Earl and daughter-in-law, Valerie of Winnipeg, his daughter Joan Berthelette and son-in-law Brian of Whitecourt, Alberta, his grandchildren Cheryl-Anne, Leigh-Anne, Kristen, Meghann, Sean, Erin and Jennalee and several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Shelagh in November 1994. Born in Campbellton, NB, in 1924, Bob enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1942, serving in both Canada and overseas. It was during this time he met and married his bride Ethel in Ottawa in November 1944. Moving west to Winnipeg in 1945 and discharged from the military, Bob enjoyed a lengthy career as a locomotive engineer with the CNR, retiring in 1982. Bob began his 2nd career in 1981, joining the Fort Garry Kiwanis Club. He was an active member and served in many offices cumulating with his term of Governor of the Western Canada District for which he was honoured with the distinguished Governor's Award presented in Nice, France in 1993. Bob and Ethel both enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships they developed through their travels with the Kiwanis. Bob was an avid sports hobbiest and enjoyed playing goal in the CNR Nite Hawks Hockey League for several years, and later golfing and curling at the Wildwood Club. Bob was kept busy helping his children with any building or renovation project they had. Whatever skill he didn't possess with a saw or hammer, he good naturedly ferried building supplies and no job was complete until dad's paint brush was hung to dry. We will truly miss a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. As per dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. We would like to invite friends and family to join us for a celebration of his life on Saturday, January 6, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the family home. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends desire, donations in Bob's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Medical Intensive Care Unit for their kindness and care during dad's illness. We also wish to thank the wonderful neighbours and friends for their concern, cards, calls and help during this time.
