Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA CARROLL (nee SELBY) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on Friday, January 5, 2007, Barbara Carroll passed away at the age of 68 years. Barbara will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son Marshall and daughter-in-law Sharon Chisvin of Winnipeg; son Stuart and son-in-law Michael Brown of Lambertville, New Jersey; and grandchildren Samara, Niri, and Gilad Carroll, all of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard and her parents Samuel and Elsie Selby. Barbara was born in Akron, Ohio in 1938 and moved to Winnipeg in 1958 when she and Leonard were married. For most of her working life she was a Financial Analyst with the Province of Manitoba's Ministry of Finance. She retired in 1998 after 31 years of distinguished service. Barbara was an avid reader and a gifted writer. She wrote speeches for nine different Finance Ministers, and in her spare time enjoyed writing skits and parody songs for various occasions and organizations. Barbara and Leonard enjoyed many vacations together during the 40 years of their marriage. They were deeply committed to the State of Israel and visited there many times. Barbara was a loving and generous mother, grandmother, and friend. She made an art of giving the perfect gift for every occasion, and gave freely of her time and talents to help those she loved. She was spontaneous and funny and we cherish the times we spent in her larger-than-life presence. The funeral was held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on January 8 with Rabbi Pinsker officiating. The family would like to extend their thanks to Cindy, Roswell, and all the staff of the Charleswood Care Centre who did so much for Barbara and for us during her final months. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the charity of your choice.
