ROLF LEU With deep sadness I announce the passing of Rolf Leu on January 4, 2007 at St. Boniface Hospital. Survived by his wife Alexis; son René by his first marriage; brother-in-law Don Appel (Eleanor) of Toronto and his little girl , black lab Sami-Joy. Born in 1935 in Yegendorf, Switzerland, Rolf spent a magical, mischievous childhood on the family farm and received his higher education in Berne where he served his apprenticeship. Arriving in this country during the 1960s, he became a fiercely proud and patriotic citizen, loving all things Canadian. Rolf was a gunsmith extraordinaire, operating a renowned shop in the city for a number of years. He was a superior craftsman and distinguished himself in the ophthalmic instrument field establishing a long career with Imperial Optical before retiring. He was brilliant in matters relating to Math and Science and embraced technology. A deep appreciation and knowledge of wildlife and conservation made him an accomplished outdoors man. Nothing made him happier than trips into the wilderness in his cherished Ford Truck. In keeping with his character, Rolf was extremely strong and brave during a horrific illness. He never complained and always tried to ease my fears. Thank you the staff of 8A, especially Sherry and Wes, Rolfs favourites . Cremation has taken place. A bench in Assiniboine Park where he loved to walk with Sami-Joy, will be dedicated to his memory in the spring. If friends so desire, donations may be made in his name to Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Y1 Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM FAMILY OWNED OPERATED 220 Hespeler @ Henderson Hwy. 668-3151
