ELSIE KNISPEL (KIEN) April 24, 1907 - March 2, 2007 Peacefully, our mother and grandmother passed away March 2, 2007 at Victoria Hospital. Elsie will be sadly missed by son Ray (Deborah), granddaughters, Alexis and Michaela, daughter Linda Neilson (Rick), grandsons, Mark and Peter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Louis, daughter Elaine, her parents, Julius and Susannah, and her brothers and sisters. The youngest of ten children, she was born in the Municipality of Franklin, and grew up on the family farm, with memories of riding her horse to school in the fall and spring and taking a horse drawn cutter in the winter. She left the farm to work in Gladstone and Winnipeg. In Winnipeg she met Louis on a roller skating date and they were married on January 27, 1943. Elsie's home was always a welcoming place and was the gathering place for relatives visiting from the country. Her cooking and baking were enjoyed by all and was a source of pride for her. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting for others and was saddened when her failing eyesight prevented her from pursuing these activities. People were very important to her. She always had time for everyone and was generous with her love. All who came to know her were impressed by her kind and generous nature and she made many life long friendships. Her sense of humour and keen wit will be missed. She had a deep and unconditional love for her family and was supportive of their endeavours and proud of their achievements. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially summer visits to Ray and Deb's cottage and the annual fall visit to Rick and Linda's farm. The family would like to thank Dr. Robyn Olson and the nurses and staff at Victoria General Hospital, for their care and compassion for Elsie during her final days. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
