EDWARD DUBINSKI Peacefully, on March 4, 2007, a few days short of his 82nd birthday, Ed passed away in hospital. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Peggy, and son Tom. He will also be remembered fondly by a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and by his sister Wanda Raulin. He was born in The Pas, MB on March 10, 1925, where he grew up. In his early twenties, Ed moved to Winnipeg where he acquired his business education and went on to a lifelong career in hospital administration, forming lasting friendships with many of his colleagues along the way, beginning with the former Manitoba Sanitorium Board, followed by the Manitoba Rehabilitation Hospital which became part of the Health Sciences Centre, from where he retired in 1985. Ed had interests which provided much pleasure to himself and his family throughout his life. He was a charter member of Breezy Bend Country Club where, for more than 40 years, he enjoyed playing countless rounds of golf and socializing with the numerous friends he and Peggy met there. He curled for many years in the men's league at the Grain Exchange Curling Club, and later in the Fort Garry and Charleswood seniors' leagues. At the Grain Ex, in the 1970s he coordinated the junior curling program of which Tom was a member, served on the executive including a term as club president in 1980-81, and was subsequently made an honourary life member of the club. In football season, Ed could be found in Section V of Winnipeg Stadium, in the same seats he occupied as a season ticket holder from the year the stadium opened 50-plus years ago, cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, almost all of those years with Peggy, and often Tom, later on with both of them. Possibly the interest which Ed enjoyed with the greatest passion was music. While growing up he nurtured a love of big band, swing and jazz music which he maintained his whole life, and during his teen years in The Pas played in a dance band. He also liked other kinds of music and for nearly 25 years he and Tom attended Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra concerts together as season ticket subscribers. Ed will most certainly be remembered by his family and all his friends and associates as having a ready smile and an infectious sense of humour, right up to the time of his passing. Cremation has been performed by Cropo Funeral Chapel, with a private ceremony and interment to take place at a later date. A commemorative reception in Ed's honour will take place Friday, March 16, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Breezy Bend Country Club, 7620 Roblin Blvd, Headingley. (Non-formal attire preferred.) The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Ed may be made to a charity of one's choice.
