Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONICA LLOYD KOEPPEL With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our dear daughter and sister, Monica on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the age of 47. Monica was born to Joan and Jack Koeppel in Winnipeg on July 2, 1959. She was a beautiful baby sister for John and Gloria and they had many happy times growing up together in Woodhaven and Wolseley. Monica attended the Manitoba School for the Deaf and made quick progress. With her intelligence and tenacity she overcame many obstacles and learned to lipread and speak. She mastered American Sign Language and could communicate very well with both the hearing and the hearing impaired. She was a wonderful student and always had a keen interest in the world around her. She was a voracious reader and was always fascinated with animals and nature, space exploration, aircraft and history. She had a great artistic talent and particularly loved her computer. As a child, she loved to rescue small bugs and creatures and keep careful loving watch over them. She had a great love for birds, and her cockatiel, Chico was her latest companion. Monica graduated from the Manitoba School for the Deaf in 1977, attended Red River College for a short time and eventually held positions with the Government of Canada at Income Security and the Department of National Defense. In 1995, Monica moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Gallaudet University and earned her BA in Political Science. These were very special years for her filled with great memories and many special friends. She felt a deep attachment to her American “home” and dreamed of returning there one day. Upon returning home to Winnipeg in 2001, Monica eventually came to live at Deaf Centre Manitoba and became a part of their unique community. She met her loving friend Lorne Rentz there and they had become inseparable and a great support to one another. Monica will be remembered for her wit, determination and intelligence. She had many struggles throughout her short life but somehow brought her own brand of optimism to many situations. Monica will be forever loved by her mother Joan, her brother John, sister Gloria (Mark), nieces Andrea and Vanessa and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved father, Jack in June of 2006 and her baby brother Paul in 1964. Monica also leaves her dear friend Lorne, who cared for her so lovingly and unconditionally. A memorial service to celebrate Monica’s life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Friday, November 17 at 3:00 p.m. A private interment will take place. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Humane Society or the Manitoba School for the Deaf. “God Be With You, Dear Moni” CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
