Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIWAN DUTKA We sadly announce the passing into eternity of Iwan Dutka, aged 84, on April 3, 2007. Iwan leaves to cherish his memory his wife Antonia, son Dmytro, daughter Bohdana, and their families including grandchildren, Dmytro, Danylo and Sophie. Iwan also leaves to mourn his sister-in-law Olha Jaszczyk, niece Maria Kulyk, grandniece Andrianna, sister Maria Babinska in Ukraine, as well as nephews, Petro, Ivan, and Marian Semenjuk and their families and numerous relatives and friends in Ukraine, Bosnia and around the world. Iwan Dutka was born June 1, 1922, in the selo Liakhivsti (now Pidhirya) in the Bohorodchansky raion of Ivano Frankivsk (then known as Stanyslaviv) oblast' of Ukraine. While battles raged over minds and later over land, Iwan found refuge and reason in books, devouring whatever newspaper, journal and book that could become available to him. Iwan also developed an ironic sense of humour and healthy realism that aided him in the challenges that life pitched. After the end of the Second World War, Iwan came to Canada from England with two suitcases- the second full of books. Courage, perseverance and luck, or more likely prayer, combined to offer him another chance. Young, honest and intelligent, and with a talent for languages, he chose Winnipeg in which to settle, to work, to dedicate himself to the Ukrainian community (notably as Markian Shashkevich Reading Association's long term librarian and secretary) and to raise a family. For this, his children, are eternally grateful - a better father could not have been had. Iwan was devoted to his children's education and to broadening their horizons and experience of the world. He also supported his family in Ukraine and Bosnia. For those who had the privilege to know him, we knew a loving, principled, and thoughtful individual. He was ever full of poetry, song and wise lessons. A favourite saying was, Every coin has two sides. We shall all miss him deeply, and in remembrance will endeavour to continue learning from his example. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor. Divine Liturgy will be sung 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, also at the Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the Children Of Chornobyl Canadian Fund. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
