Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT (HERB) JAMES DOUGLAS It is with sorrow, the family of Herbert James Douglas announce his passing at age 87, on Saturday, April 21, 2007. Left to cherish his memory are wife Anne; children, Bev Potter and husband Don, Jim Douglas and wife Donna, Calla Lofvendahl and husband Greg; grandchildren, Cassandra Bird and husband Sean, Michael Potter and wife Kimberlee, Bryan Douglas and Scott Douglas; great-grandson Dallas Bird; sister Dorothy Treble; and the many friends and relatives of the Douglas and Black clans. Herbert James Douglas was born September 17, 1919 in Oakburn, Manitoba; the youngest of three children of James and Gertrude Douglas. He attended school in Oakburn, Vista, Solsgirth and Shoal Lake. In l94l, he joined the Royal Canadian Artillery. In 1946, he started work at the Winnipeg Free Press, retiring in 1982. Herb also worked part time for the Winnipeg Enterprises from 1959 to 1969. In June 1948, Herb married Marguerite Anne' Black and St. James was their home for the following 58 plus years; first on Moorgate Street, then Kiwanis Courts and finally the Westhaven. Herb moved to Charleswood Care Centre on January 30, 2007. Moorgate was where Herb and Anne raised their family and was always a gathering place for family, friends; especially the Solsgirth' and Moorgate' gangs. Herb was an active sports enthusiast of most sports. He especially enjoyed playing pool, crib, curling and golf. Herb cherished his family and friends. He was an honourable, generous and gentle soul whose warm smile and dry wit will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank Home Care, G.W.C.L. Day Program, Deer Lodge Day Program and most recently the caregivers at Charleswood Care Centre. Your assistance and dedication enabled Herb to adjust and better cope with his increasing health problems. Your kindness and support is greatly appreciated. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at l0:00 a.m., Friday, April 27 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715

Sincere condolences to all Herb's family, on his death. May you find the strength needed to cope with your sorrow. I worked with Herb at the Free Press from 1947 to 1967, and remember him as a hard worker, but always cheerful.
