Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHEN (HARRY) JARVIS Peacefully, with family by his side, we announce with great sadness the passing of Stephen, at the age of 79, on June 11, 2007 at the Lions Personal Care Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer. Stephen was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret, his parents and sister Sheila. Stephen will be lovingly remembered by his son James Jarvis and wife Verena, daughter Peggy Randall (Fred East and his daughter Stephanie), special friend Ollie, cousins and many dear friends. Stephen was born in Cypress River, then moved to Elm Creek and finally to Winnipeg, where he met the love of his life, Margaret. In 1952, Stephen and Margaret were married. In 1960 and 1962 they adopted James and Peggy, whom they were very proud of. The family resided in St. James for many years, Stephen worked for the St. James School Division for over 31 years as a custodian. Throughout his lifetime, Stephen came to appreciate a number of things that gave him pleasure including, his love for his family, his involvement with Canadian Order of Foresters for 43 years, being a member of the St. James Anglican Church and being involved with cubs and boy scouts. Stephen also loved summer vacations camping with a trailer club in his motor home, eventually going on to purchase lake property at Twin Beaches where good times were had with neighbours and friends. Stephen also enjoyed going to the rotary chicken fry annually for many years. After his wife passed away in 1994, Stephen took on a big undertaking with his life and health. He then decided to move to the Lions Manor in 1999, which brought out the best in him. He joined the choir, took organ lessons, was the Vice President on their Resident Council and was also a part of the food committee. Stephen enjoyed going on the many outings and even got into mischief with the ladies on occasion. It gave Stephen great pleasure to make gracious donations to the Lions Manor, Grace Hospital and most recently a lovely keyboard to the Ness Baptist Church. I was a troubled youth for many years, wound up in prison as an adult. I made a lot of bad choices and wanted acceptance in the wrong places. My Dad never wanted children and it was obvious when I was a kid growing up. My dad would either be farting around in the basement or in the garage tinkering with the car. He used to get angry a lot and hit me for no reason. I hated him for the way he treated me and I ran away from home all of the time. It was about a year or so before he died that he told me that he was sorry for being a lousy dad and I replied, "I am sorry for have being a lousy son". we made peace with each other that day and I was able to move on with my life. I have been married to my wife for the past 12 years and we have a wonderful life together. I have a good job with many friends. I no longer have a criminal record. 1996 to present. I just wish my dad was still around to see how my life has changed for the better and how proud he would be to call me his son. - Posted by: James Jarvis (Son) on: Jul 06, 2014
