MARIA DO COUTO (nee JANEIRO) After a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother Maria on August 1, 2007, at the age of 55. Remaining to forever cherish Maria's memory are her husband Albano; children, Susie (Britt) Phillips, Tony (Angela) Do Couto, Sandi (Brad) Saluk; grandchildren, Kyle, Evan and Logan. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Etelvina (Fernando), Conceicao (David); brother-in-law Caetano; and all of her family and friends. Maria was predeceased by her brother Lionel; sister Alda; father Arturo; brother Eldeberto; and mother Amelia. Maria will always be remembered by her smile and friendliness towards everyone. She was born in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, on December 18, 1951, then moved to Canada in 1969 to later marry her true love Albano. She made countless friends while working many years at the Health Sciences Centre until her illness progressed. Maria was dedicated to her family and took great joy in watching her children marry and start their families. She loved her grandchildren greatly as they always brought a smile to her face. A sincere, heartfelt thank you to Dr. R. Wong, all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the 5E ward at St. Boniface Hospital - your kindness and care for Maria will never be forgotten. Prayers will be held on Friday, August 3 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N., with Very Rev. José Eduardo Medeiros as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
