Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNARD CHRISTOPHER MOTT Born December 28, 1925, Winnipeg, MB, died August 3, 2007, Victoria, BC after a brief illness. His father, mother, and two brothers, Doug and Jack predeceased him. Bern leaves to mourn his wife Phyllis; daughters, Sandra Mott-James (Carl), and Suzanne Mott (Warren), and sister Kathleen Jolly (Bill). During the Second World War, Bern served overseas in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe with the Canadian Armoured Corps (Fort Garry Horse) and the Duke of York Royal Canadian Hussars. From 1949 to 1959, Bern served as Fire Fighter and Acting Captain, City of St. Boniface Fire Department, and was both Shop Steward and member of the Fire Fighters' Union Negotiating Committee. In addition, he was active in the Norwood Credit Union, serving both on the Board of Directors and as President. Following, Bern entered the Fire Commissioner's Office, Manitoba Provincial Government, as Assistant Fire Commissioner and in 1967 was appointed Deputy Fire Commissioner, a position he held until his retirement. He was passionate about his vocation and took every opportunity to learn. He attended Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs conferences, served on the Fire Training Manual (Red Books) committee, and attended fire-fighting seminars in Memphis, TN. Bernard was a member of the Canadian Association of Fire Marshals and Commissioners, The National Fire Protection Association, and was Secretary-Treasurer of the Manitoba Fire Chiefs. In 1987 Bernard and Phyllis retired to Vancouver Island where they continued their travels in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Throughout his life Bern was devoted to his family and he set and pursued goals to achieve his dreams. Bern was known for his integrity, courage to stand up for what he believed was right encouraging his family to follow the same path, sense of humour, enthusiasm, and keen interest in world affairs, politics, and football (Winnipeg Blue Bombers). The family would like to thank those who have offered condolences. Interment will take place in Victoria at a later date.
