ANAID KIERNAN (MOORADIAN)
Born: Apr 03, 1916
Date of Passing: Aug 13, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANAID KIERNAN (nee MOORADIAN) Peacefully, with her family by her side, Anaid Kiernan passed away on August 13, 2007, at the age of 91. Anaid was born in Ontario on April 3, 1916 to parents Hagop and Nazen Mooradian, who had recently emigrated from Armenia. She was educated in Gault (now Cambridge, ON) and then Winnipeg, where she lived for the rest of her life. She graduated in Medicine from the University of Manitoba in 1942. During her senior internship year, Anaid was asked to be Chief Resident at the Winnipeg Children's Hospital, becoming the first woman ever to fill that position. She enjoyed her years there so much that she continued to study paediatrics and eventually went into private practice and then, in later years, became the doctor for the Winnipeg school system. A truly remarkable, dynamic and generous woman, Anaid attracted a wide circle of loyal friends whom she cherished dearly, many of them for six decades or more. Well into her 92nd year, she was living in her own house, driving herself and her friends in her car, and following the exploits of her beloved Blue Bombers and pro golf and tennis with the same keen interest she had for over 60 years. She was always totally current with modern culture, and approached changes to her world and her life with her trademark incisive wit. A long-time patron of the symphony, theatre, and opera, Anaid also enjoyed many years of golfing at Niakwa, activities at the Winter Club, and, above all, visiting with friends and family. She was also a loyal parishioner at St. Aidan's Anglican Church. Of the many charities which she supported generously, her favourite was the Winnipeg Humane Society. If you wish, donations may be made to this charity or one of your choice in lieu of flowers. Predeceased by her devoted husband Dr. Matthew Kiernan, brother Dr. Ara Mooradian, and sister-in-law Esther, Anaid will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her beloved family: son Matthew, daughter-in-law Catherine Harris, grandchildren, Susannah and Patrick, and her many special friends. We would like to thank the staff of 5th Floor West Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care of our Mom. A service celebrating Anaid's life will be held at St. Aidan's Church, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 23.
