HERB JOYCE Peacefully after a brief sojourn in the Minnedosa hospital, Herb Joyce, aged 94 years, passed away on August 26, 2007, with his wife Bea at his side. Predeceased by his parents and four brothers and his first wife Violet Joyce (nee Norris), Herb leaves to mourn his nephews, Brian Norris, Bill Norris (Linda), and niece Pat Brawner (nee Norris); his stepson Jimmy, other stepsons; nephews, nieces, and in-laws. Herb, born on November 16, 1912, in Winnipeg, moved with his parents and four brothers in 1919 to Giroux, Manitoba. Herb and Violet were married in 1935 and spent 12 happy years on the farm in Giroux. After years farming, Herb left Giroux to take courses in home and farm electrical wiring and radio repair. In the immediate years following the Second World War, Herb was instrumental in wiring many farms and homes in communities about Winnipeg as the electrification of rural Manitoba ensued. In 1947, having relocated to Norwood in Winnipeg, Herb started Joyce Electric, sold, and serviced his many rural customers with stoves, refrigerators, deep freezes, and furniture. When television took its hold, he added to his business by selling and servicing radios and televisions. Making many friends throughout the countryside, Herb always had time to stop and visit. He loved to laugh, play cards, have a drink or two, and talk religion and politics. At home in Norwood, Herb and Vi bowled at least twice a week and never missed a dance in their community or a community hall in the surrounding countryside. When his wife Vi could no longer dance, Herb and Vi played cards once a week with their nephew Brian throughout the winter months as well as games of lawn darts in the summer months. Following the death of his first wife Violet, Herb retired and eventually married again. He and his new wife Bea moved to Minnedosa where they have happily resided until his passing. Herb and Bea lovingly enjoyed their years together as they traveled and made new friends in Minnedosa. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, No. 1 Hwy. E. and Navin Rd., in Winnipeg, at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2007. Interment to follow.
