ALAN EDWARD KELLY April 17, l9l5 - August 28, 2007 Alan passed away peacefully on August 28, 2007, at age 92, surrounded by family. Alan was predeceased by his wife Alma, infant son Michael, daughter-in-law Kathleen and grandson Joshua. He is survived by his daughter Alana, sons, Andrew (Anna Mae), Chris (Diane), Robin (Ann) and Dick (Marcie), nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his special friend Gladys Smith. Alan was born in Winnipeg in 1915 and spent his early life on the family farm near Marquette. At 18 he went to work with a prospector in the Bissett area, while continuing to work on the family farm. During the Second World War, he took R.C.M.P. Reserve training in Regina as part of the home guard. He then purchased land along the Assiniboine River at Belcourt, which became the family farm for the next 48 years. In l941 he married Alma Bailey of Marquette. They had six children, five of whom survived fires, floods, hail, bugs and all the joys of life on a dairy-based mixed farm. Alan and Alma retired from farming in 1987 and moved to Winnipeg. Overall, they shared 60 years as husband and wife. Alan was always a busy man. Besides the demands of the farm, Alan was actively involved in the movement and sat on the boards of the credit union, the school, M.F.A.C., Pool Elevator plus many other organizations. He served as a Councillor for St. Francois Xavier and later as President of the Poplar Point Seniors Group, the Elie A.N.A.F. and the Victoria Arms Senior's Group. Alan and Alma always enjoyed meeting people and developed many lasting friendships both near and far. Alan will be dearly missed by family and friends. We extend a special thank you to the staff at the Golden West Centennial Lodge on School Road in St. James who were so caring and considerate of Alan over the past year. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Golden West Lodge or a charity of your choice. A memorial service took place on Friday at St. Andrews Anglican Church. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
