BRENDA JOANNE HATHERLY March 19, 1958 - August 16, 2007 Peacefully, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer, we are sad to announce the passing of Brenda at the Pinawa Hospital on Thursday, August 16, 2007. Brenda was predeceased by her father Joseph in 1996. Brenda will be dearly missed by her husband Dale and their children, Rhys (14) and Anika (6); mother Verlie Spakowski; sister Darlene and Noel Catrysse; brothers, Barry, Wayne and Brian and their families; in-laws, Richard and Evelyn Hatherly of Barrie, ON; brothers-in-law, Gerry and Ricki, Brian and Carla and family, and Phillip, as well as the rest of her extended family and many friends. Brenda was born in Gimli Hospital on March 19, 1958. Brenda was always strong and confident in her abilities in all walks of life. As she became an adult she found her calling working with children. From receiving her diploma in Child Care at Red River College to becoming a coordinator at the day care in Pinawa. After working at Manitoba Hydro, Brenda decided to put her working career on hold. Dale and Brenda had two precious children, Rhys and Anika. As a family, they enjoyed many weekends camping and fishing. She was a true nature enthusiast and lover of high heels. Brenda was always busy taking her children to hockey, dancing and other sports. While working on receiving her social work degree from the University of Manitoba, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She struggled to stay with us until her journey's end. Brenda, we will never forget you and in our hearts we will love you forever. May the true blessing from heaven shine upon you. The family would like to thank all the friends and relatives for the support they received. Many thanks to Ruth and Robert Arnason for their help with the children in this challenging time. As well, a special thanks for the care provided by the doctors and nurses from Health Sciences Centre, CancerCare, Gimli, Arborg and Pinawa Hospitals. A private funeral was held in Malonton where she was laid to rest next to her dad. If you wish, donations may be made in memory of Brenda to: North Eastman Palliative Care Program - Pinawa, Box 220, Pinawa, MB R0E 1L0.
