GRACE SEARLE MCMURTRY Grace died on September 6, 2007 a few days after her 90th birthday. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Lily (Johnson) Stanley, and by her stepsister, Ruth Dixon (Stewart). She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Doug McMurtry and her children, Margaret (Doug) Hallatt of Naples, Florida, Dennis (Maija) Searle of Ladysmith, BC and, Ruth (Bob) Misenko of Hudson, WI. Each of her grandchildren were so loved that they each thought they were their Amma's favourite : Christopher and Scott (Jeni) Hallatt; Toni (Dawn) and Tiina Searle; and Kai (Brian) Coyle and Ian Misenko. There are four great-grandchildren, also beloved, Hannah and Aidan Coyle; Morgan and Emily Hallatt. Attending elementary, high school and United College in two periods in Winnipeg, Grace also studied Education at Brandon College and did post-graduate work at the University of North Dakota. Her vocation was a teacher and high school counsellor. Known as a person of great inner strength, conviction and integrity, Grace was always, at the same time, gracious, hospitable, and seen, especially by young people, as a role model. During her life she survived many experiences of hardship and hurt, but she was more than a survivor: she was a gentle nurturer of others. As a person of faith, Grace drew much from and contributed much to, the life of Immanuel United Church. She also found refreshment at Stewart Lake, near Nipigon, where she and her family have gathered every summer for over 50 years. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel United Church, Golspie and Kimberly, on Tuesday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Nancy Sanders presiding. In place of flowers, gifts to honour Grace's memory may be sent to: Dr. Jessie Saulteau Resource Centre, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C9 or to the Mission and Service Fund, Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie Street, Winnipeg, MB R2K 2V4. neil bardal inc 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
