Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTOINETTE RUTH STEVENSON 1920 - 2007 Peacefully with family by her side, Ruth Stevenson passed away at her residence at the Repos Jolys in St. Pierre Jolys at age 87. Ruth was born in Elmwood on April 21, 1920. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, sisters Eunice and Helen and granddaughter Alyssa. She is survived by her five children Andy (Sal), Lael (Ken), Rick (Elaine), Larry, Iola (Don), numerous grandchildren and sister Iris (Jack). Ruth was blessed with a beautiful voice and music filled her whole life. As a teenager she earned money by singing at many society weddings in Winnipeg. In 1937 she won the Tudor Bowl at the Manitoba Music Festival at 17, being the youngest winner at that time. Ruth continued her love of music by joining the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir. Ruth would venture to numerous cities in Canada and the United States to see operas throughout the years. After her husband died in 1960 Ruth was faced with raising five children on her own. She started working for CJAY TV in 1961, then moved to SAS Airlines and from there she began a career as a travel agent, a job she loved and would work in for the next 30 years. Ruth loved to travel. She circled the globe numerous times seeing every continent except Africa. Ruth decided country life was for her and after the kids left home she moved to Otterburne where she resided until 2005. Ruth loved her little home on the river. Some of her favourite pastimes included listening to the Blue Jays on the radio and watching figure skating on TV. Her final years were spent at the Repos Jolys where she received the most wonderful care by all the staff. The family would also like to thank the communities of Otterburne and St. Pierre for the wonderful support and love given to her over the years. A short memorial service will be held at the Repos Jolys Personal Care Home, 354 Rue Prefontaine, St. Pierre Jolys at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2007. A private interment with family will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, Box 1616, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2Z6. VITA FUNERAL HOMES ST PIERRE CHAPEL IN CARE OF ARRANGEMENTS
