ATHOL HORNE 1924 - 2007 On Saturday, October 27, 2007, Athol Horne, aged 83 years, beloved husband of the late Fern Horne, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Athol is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by four siblings. Athol was a longtime resident of Fort Garry, and a very active member of Clandeboye United Church. At 18 years of age, he joined the RCAF, and served as a radar technician in Newfoundland. He worked for many years as paymaster at Weststeel. He worked many summers helping in his brother-in-law's business, packing and delivering minnows for Corrigal Minnows. Athol was an avid fisherman and always knew where to find the hot spots. He was well known and well loved in his community, always helping in any way he could. He always had a joke or a riddle for anyone he met while out on his daily walks, collecting stray golf balls from a nearby course. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff on GB3 at the Health Sciences Centre. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Clandeboye United Church, Judy Limpright officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Athol's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
