GUDRUN VALDINA KARVELSON (nee JONASSON) Peacefully on November 13, 2007, Gudrun Valdina Karvelson of Gimli, MB, passed away at the age of 86 years. Gudrun will be sadly missed by her sons, Ingvar, Valdimar (Zoitsa) and Karvel (Judy) and daughter Thelma Hoff (Chuck); 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Steini (Elva), Einar (Elsie) and Raymond (Faye); sister Beatrice; sisters-in-law, Gudrun and Barbara; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Sigurjon; brothers, Baldwin, Jonas and Bjorgvin; sister-in-law Agnes; brother-in-law Johnny; daughter-in-law Doreen; and grandson Lance. Gudrun was born on March 1, 1921, at Djupadal in Geysir, MB, to Jonas and Evelyn Jonasson. In 1939 she married Sigurjon Karvelson. They farmed in Framnes, MB, until they retired to Sunrise Lodge in Arborg in 1982. After Sigurjon's death in 1990, Gudrun moved to New Haven Lodge in Gimli, and then in 2001, became a resident of Betel Nursing Home. Just prior to her marriage, Gudrun took a hairdressing course in Winnipeg. This training was put to good use over the years as she trimmed and coiffed family and neighbours. Mom's artistic ability was always in evidence in the beautiful wedding cakes she decorated, and in the bird houses, cushions and ornaments she created. She loved to crochet and sew, sewing much of the family's clothing without the use of patterns. We have very fond memories of all the toy buildings she made for us to play with. Mom had a very generous nature and took great pleasure in giving. For several years she attended Adult Day Care in Gimli where she participated in the creation of many pretty things. Her eyes would light up with joy as she presented these handmade treasures to family and friends. Family meant everything to her, and her most treasured possessions were her pictures. She spent many enjoyable hours looking at her pictures and reminiscing. The family wishes to thank the staff at Betel and at the Johnson Memorial Hospital as well as Dr. Patel, for the excellent care. A special thanks to Alexis of the Adult Day Care program for her years of devoted friendship. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor Jaycen Snider officiating. A private family interment will take place at the Geysir Cemetery. Goda nott Elsku Mamma, Amma og Lang Amma. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
