STEFAN SCHUST Peacefully, on Friday, November 23, 2007 at Holy Family Nursing Home, Stefan Schust, aged 95 years. Stefan was born in Ukraine in 1912. After living in Austria during the Second World War, Stefan immigrated to Canada in 1950 under a contract to pick sugar beets for one year. After the contract was over, many of Stefan's co-workers left for work in Hamilton, but he chose to remain in Winnipeg and was employed with Greb Shoes until his retirement. Along side his regular employment, Stefan also bought and sold house. Sefan met his Anna over 25 years ago, and after her passing in 1997, he met Susan, his companion/caregiver of 10 years. When Stefan had his leg amputated and Susan suffered a stroke, he eventually move to Holy Family Nursing Home. Stefan had a string spirit, passion for life and great strength and courage to survive. He loved music, and when he could no longer attend the many concerts he enjoyed, he continued to play music in his room. Stefan was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Hopka, Katarina, Anna and brother Roman. Left to cherish his memory is his dear friend Susan. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street with Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
