JACK H. FINKELSTEIN April 20, 1925 - November 19, 2007 After a brief illness, peacefully and with family at his side, Jack Finkelstein passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on November 19. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marilyn; sons, Mark of Toronto and Bert (Paula) of St. Paul, Minnesota; grandsons, Sam and Jonah; stepsons, Michael, Joey (Lisa) and David (Jamie) of Winnipeg and stepdaughter Beth (Allister) of Vancouver; sisters, Sadie Ratner of Regina and Zelma Wasserman of Edmonton. Zeida will also be lovingly missed by his extended grandchildren, William, Chloe, Jessie, Josh, Hanna, Theo, Lucy and Dana. His memory will be cherished by his many nieces, nephews, brother and sisters-in-law. Jack was predeceased by his sister Ida (Gould) and brother Mitch. Jack was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on April 20, 1925. He completed his college education in Saskatchewan and began his career in the retail business, managing Army and Navy stores. He married Joyce Riesenberg in Vancouver in 1952 and moved to Regina in 1954, continuing to work in the retail clothing business. In 1958 he moved his young family to Winnipeg and began a long association with Ricki’s Canada, developing a chain of clothing stores across Western Canada. With a great deal of pride, perseverance and dedication, Jack started a new career in his 60s in the insurance business, still holding his license at the time of his death. Jack married Marilyn Wolchock in 1997 and was the joyful recipient of her great love, devotion and caring for the last 10 years. Jack’s greatest joy was spending time with his immediate and extended family. Reminiscing about his childhood and life in Saskatchewan were a constant pleasure for him. He loved tennis and spending time in Synagogue. When his knees kept him off the courts he rededicated himself to Shaarey Zedek, the evening minion being the highlight of his day. The most recent family memory was his summer trip this August to St. Paul where he saw his grandchildren Samson and Jonah perform and attended a baseball game with his family. A gift we will always remember. In lieu of flowers, please send any contributions to the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue Adult Leisure Fund. Funeral services will be held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, 561 Wellington Cres., on Thursday, November 22 at 1:00 p.m.
