Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCINDY VERLE MARCHANT Cindy Verle Marchant passed away suddenly on December 31, 2007 in Calgary, Alberta after a short illness. She was born June 26, 1957 in Killarney, Manitoba, the eldest daughter of Jim and Ilene Marchant. After graduating from high school in Cartwright, Cindy worked in Winnipeg and Brandon where she met her husband. Doug and Cindy were married in 1981 and living and working in Alberta at the time. Her first job in Calgary was at a small oil drilling company. It was here that she began to learn the oil business, an occupation that would become her life's work. Doug and Cindy returned to Manitoba for a few years where their daughters Katie and Sarah were born. As her girls grew up, Cindy became active in the Girl Guides in Winnipeg and put her prodigious organizing talents to good work. Her volunteer work as Guider Cindy made perfect sense given her absolute love of camping. However, Alberta beckoned again, and Cindy and her family moved to High River in the mid-nineties. She continued her volunteer work with Girl Guides and also as a 4-H leader. Cindy also took up the oil business again, eventually establishing a consulting business, becoming a registered landman, and in the last few years, also operating her own oil well holding company, Badger Creek Resources. Much of her work was in the Virden and Sinclair oilfields of Manitoba. Connections with her hometown in Manitoba and extended family were always an important part of Cindy's life. So often, she was at the organizing centre for reunions of family or friends. Her to do lists were legendary as was her ability to produce just the right widget for some task or ingredient that would make a meal memorable. If you needed a whisk on a camping trip, you just asked Cindy. Cindy will always be in the thoughts and hearts of Doug, Katie (Matt) and Sarah, her parents Jim and Ilene, sister Tracy, brothers Blake (Valerie, Clint, Robert and Mandy) and Blair (Sandi and Sydney), aunts, uncles and dozens of cousins. Cindy made friends for life and there are many, many of these to also remember her. Family and friends gathered to celebrate Cindy's life at 11:00 a.m. on January 5, 2008 at the Snodgrass Funeral Home in High River, Alberta. In accordance with Cindy's wishes, her ashes will be returned to the family farm near Cartwright at a later date. Donations in Cindy's memory can be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation or the Cartwright Independent School (Cartwright, Manitoba).
