Besides his loving wife Shirley, Alex leaves to mourn his passing,his two daughters Rita Bergen / Larry Goodmanson (Colin and Stephen Bergen) Diana Fast and husband Dale Alderson (Travis, Ben, Kyla Gaertner) stepson Darryl Bryant / Lorraine Stack (Misty, Star, Amber) and two stepdaughters Darcy and husband David Lariviere (Bryan,Cory,Robin) of Montreal, Traci Fast (Eddie, Gus Van Vliet)of Cranbrook, BC, four great-grandchildren and a sister Irna of Kazaksthan, and many nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth, two brothers and four sisters, and son-in-law Jonathan Gaertner. Alex was born on May 20, 1926 in Halbstadt Russia and immigrated to Canada in 1948.Alex worked at Pritchard Engineering for 36 years, retiring to their summer home in Matlock, Manitoba. He enjoyed the peace and the quiet of country life. He loved gardening and walking with his faithful companion Sargeant. Alex loved to dance, play cribbage and was an excellent chess player. He loved music and would listen for hours to either Mario Lanza or Kenny Rogers. We would like to thank all the wonderful home care workers for their support, concern and for making Alex comfortable in his final days. The Funeral will take place at 2:00 Monday, January 21 at Abundant Life Lutheran Church, 3486 Raleigh (at the south end of Rebeck Road). Cremation to follow and interment will be held at a later date with a private ceremony at Niverville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, Ste. 307, 171 Donald St. Winnipeg R3C 1M4 or to Abundant Life Lutheran Church toward a landscaping project. 3486 Raleigh, East St. Paul, MB R2E 1B9
