THEODORE (TED) LAPLANTE July 13, 1914 - January 22, 2008 Ted was born July 13, 93 years ago, in Bonfield, Ontario, one of nine children. A young Ted left the family farm to seek his fortune in the bush of northern Ontario. As a diamond driller, Ted was on the crew that first discovered the gold that became Red Lake's Campbell Mine. The dashing Ted met his lovely wife Jean at a local dance and they remained partners for 55 years. Together they raised Randy, Gisele and Denise to be the three best kids in the world. If Ted was awake, he was giving himself to others. He served on the Catholic School Board and spent many weekends helping Leo work on the school. He volunteered for the Arthritis Society, the Cancer Society, and was a Knight of Columbus for his entire adult life. The local church knew that whatever work needed to be done, Ted would be there. He was a Lay Minister, bingo worker, and visited many parishioners as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The week he turned 65, Ted retired and became a grandfather for the first time. Deanna, Davey, Sheena and Jared became the most important thing in their Grandpa's life. Whenever a grandchild walked through the door, Ted was sure to have homemade chocolate chip cookies ready. Ted made his cookies like he made his pies, with plenty of sugar. His cooking skills included perogies that were so good, Ukrainians were in awe. Prayers will be said on Friday, January 25 at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. at Manahan, with Reverend Dr. Patrick Morand presiding. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Our family would like to thank Dr. Salem and the amazing staff at the Victoria Hospital for the fantastic care Ted received. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ted's name to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
