Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELZA PETERDY (nee ROZENKALNS) On Monday, February 4, 2008 at St. Boniface Hospital, Elza Peterdy, aged 89 years, beloved widow of Stephen Peterdy. Leaving to mourn are daughters Margit Peterdy, Anne Peterdy and husband Brian McAughey, grandchildren Brent, Eric and Kevin McAughey, sister Zenta Rozentals in Riga, Latvia, and nieces and nephews in Latvia. Elza was born in Riga, Latvia on July 25, 1918. She earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Latvia University and was a member of the Latvian Academic Society. Elza left Latvia after the Soviet invasion following the Second World War. She lived in Bremen Germany until 1949 when she immigrated to Canada. She met her future husband Stephen on the ship travelling to a new life in Canada. They eventually settled in Fort Garry. Mom was a caring, supportive person to her family and all who knew her. She was very proud to be a Canadian. Mom was a very active member of her church, Latvian Lutheran Evangelical, serving as treasurer. Elza was a kind and loving mom and Grandma. We all looked forward to her renowned Latvian pirogs at family gatherings. Mom loved to garden and was a trained and accomplished pianist. She enjoyed opera and ballet, especially the performances of Pavarotti and Baryshnikov. Elza enjoyed her several visits with sister Zenta and her family in Latvia. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 8 at 10:00 a.m., in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 3M3 or a charity of your choice.
