HOPE ELAINE JOYCE (nee REID) November 11, 1920 - February 8, 2008 Peacefully with family by her side, Hope passed away at Middlechurch Personal Care Home at the age of 87 years. Born to Duncan and Agnes Reid, Hope was the younger of their two surviving children. She grew up in Winnipeg's north end, spending the summers at their cottage in Selkirk. She received her schooling at Luxton Elementary, and St. John's Tech, and, after attending the University of Winnipeg, she entered nursing training at the Winnipeg General Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse, Class of 1944. She received post-graduate training in Obstetrics in Boston, Massachusetts, and then returned to serve at the Winnipeg General (now the Health Sciences Centre). It was during this service that Hope met her future husband, Leonard Joyce, a widowed father of twin newborn babies. They were married two years later in June of 1948, and settled in East Kildonan where, in time, they added two more children to the family. Hope continued to practice her nursing as time allowed and served as Class Rep from training through 2004. She also became deeply involved in the Girl Guide movement for many years. After Len's passing in 1989, Hope brought balance back into her life and was one of a handful of dedicated seniors who worked hard to establish the Good Neighbours Senior's Centre, an organized group which offers friendship, activities, and a gathering place for seniors. The last three years saw her move from her Winnipeg home to live with family members near Beausejour, MB. As her health declined, she moved to the Beausejour Hospital, and finally to the Middlechurch Personal Care Home of Winnipeg. Hope made many life-long friends as she traveled though life, and cherished them all. People were her greatest joy in life. She loved to watch them, meet them, talk with them, and help them. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Rest peacefully, Mum. You've certainly earned it. At her request, there will be no funeral service, but instead a reception in her honour will be held on Saturday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Glen Eden Funeral Home (4477 Main Street, North of the Perimeter Highway). Cremation has already taken place and private interment will be held for family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Middlechurch Personal Care Home of Winnipeg, or the Beausejour Hospital, or to a charity of your personal preference. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
