JOSEPH LA SPINA Peacefully on February 10, 2008, after 83 fulfilling years, Joseph La Spina passed away with his family by his side at Health Sciences Centre. He will be remembered dearly by his loving sons, Alfred (Christina), Rosario (Susan) and Michael (Leanne). He was a devoted and proud grandfather to Amelia, Venerina, Marisa, Joseph, Danielle, Catherine, Jennifer and Nicole and great-grandfather to Reid, Julia and Ty. Joseph also leaves to mourn his passing one brother and two sisters in Italy. Joseph was predeceased by his wife Nerina on January 22, 2002, and four brothers and one sister in Italy. Joseph was born in Catania, Sicily on May 22, 1924. He married Nerina on September 22, 1951 and in 1957 they immigrated to Winnipeg together with their first child. Our father was a man of trust, integrity and dignity who valued the opinions of others. He always left a positive impression on those who knew him. This served him well as a carpenter and construction foreman. He was a fiercely independent man up to his last day. Joseph found pleasure in some of the simpler things in life, walking, working on puzzles, carpet bowling, his Coffee Club and many friends in his senior community. His gardening skills and especially his flowers were enjoyed by all. Joseph enjoyed many travelling adventures back to his home country of Italy, especially on two very memorable trips with family to Portugal and Italy. The family extends their appreciation to the Winnipeg Police Service, the Paramedics, Health Sciences Centre Emergency and special thanks to S.I.C.U. staff, Drs. Saadia, Krcek, Williams and Gray. Also a very special thanks to Wendy Powell and Abbie Keagen for giving us the gift of time to say goodbye to our dad and grandpa. Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy#1 east at Navin Rd. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, (204) 222-3241 Life stories may be shared with friends and family across the globe at www.mem.com
