CARL CAMERON COOK August 20, 1927 - February 13, 2008 With much sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Carl Cameron Cook in his 81st year. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth; beloved children, Clifford (Marjorie), Linda, Allison (Darren), Garth (Phyllis), grandchildren Melissa (Paul), Curtis, Chad, Brennen, Amanda, Kelly, great-grandchildren Haley, Alex and his five sisters and two brothers. Carl was predeceased by his parents, Dave and Alice, his two brothers Raymond and Byron. Carl was born, raised and educated in Millbrook, MB, the sixth child of W. D. and Alice Cook. His first occupation was as a carpenter. This led him into the lumber business, managing both the Beaver Lumber yards in Beausejour and Morris. In 1974 he and his family established Anola Building Centre, where he continued to work until his brief illness. Carl believed strongly in community involvement throughout his life. He organized and led a 4-H Beef Club. He was a founding member of the Hazelridge Millbrook United Church (now Anola United), he was instrumental in building the Anola Community Club and the Sunrise Senior Lodge, and was the president of the Anola Museum for many years. He also helped to organize the Anola Volunteer Fire Department in 1976 and was the Deputy Fire Chief for 25 years there. It was this involvement that led him to be presented with the Governor General's 20 year Exemplary Service Award. Carl also took much pleasure in restoring his tractors, Model T's and A's and spent many fulfilling hours working on them. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Vanrensburg, Dr. Schmidt and the staff at Beausejour Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. from the Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, MB. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Carl's name to the Anola and District Museum (Box 153, Anola, MB ROE OAO) or the Springfield Firefighters Association (P.O. Box 219, 628 Main Street, Oakbank, MB ROE 1JO). SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM, Beausejour 268-3510 or MB Toll Free 1-877-776-2220
