HELEN FILBERT (nee MALYK) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother on Friday, February 15, 2008 at St. Joseph's Residence at the age of 87 years, following a stroke. Mom was born in Brightstone, Manitoba on January 16, 1921 to Michael and Xenia Malyk. She had eight brothers and sisters. In August of 1940 she married Carl Pichnicki and they had one son, Leonard. After Carl's passing Mom moved to Winnipeg and worked for Manitoba Bedding. She met and later married John Filbert in April 1947. Together they raised three children until John died in December, 1966. Mom then worked for Canadian Linen Supply, then moved back to Manitoba Bedding until her retirement in 1986. For many years Mom was very active and served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary at General Sir Sam Steele Legion. One of her greatest joys was to be part of the auxiliary's colour party. We well remember every Friday night Mom going to Mosienko Lanes for her weekly five-pin bowling. After retirement she bowled with the senior's league on Tuesday mornings. Mom always liked to keep herself busy with her knitting, sewing and gardening. She was predeceased by husbands, Carl and John; her parents; brothers, John, Bill, George, and Andrew; sisters, Julia, Mary and Gertrude. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Leonard (Catherine), Connie (Jim), Linda (Elliot); grandchildren, Karen, Carol, Dorothy (Brent), John, Sean (Jenn), Stacey (Chris) and Kathy; great-grandchildren, Brettiney, Danielle and Dylan; sister Pauline (John), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Respecting Mom's wishes there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place. Interment to take place in the spring at Red Deer Cemetery, R.M. of Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba. The family would like to express their gratitude to the 2nd floor staff at St. Joseph's Residence for their excellent care of our Mom. Thank you all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Night, night Mom! Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044
