Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANASTYJA (NETTIE) LEWKIW (nee IWANICKA) January 8, 1908 - February 15, 2008 We are sad to announce the death of our beloved Mother and Baba on Friday, February 15, 2008, at the age of 100 years, 38 days. Amongst crisp white linens, soft pillows and her embroidered cushions, with quiet music to soothe her, she died in peace and dignity. She was eased from this world by the gentle hands and loving voices of her nurses and caregivers at Holy Family Nursing Home where she had resided in contentment for eight years. Remaining to forever cherish Nettie's memory are her only child Zenon (Zane) Lewkiw, his wife Sandra; two grandsons, Michael and his wife Cindy of Winnipeg, and Sean and his girlfriend Isabelle who live in London, England; one granddaughter Marcy in Irvine, Cal. She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1982 and by all her siblings in the Ukraine and her sister and one brother in Canada, as well as numerous friends and neighbours. Nettie was born in Witkowo Nowy, Ukraine, one of 10 children, and lived through turbulent and violent war years before joining her eldest sister in Winnipeg when she was 19 years old. She worked as a domestic until meeting and marrying Michael Lewkiw in 1935, firstly residing in Rennie, Manitoba, before returning back to Winnipeg where she spent the rest of her life. We will always remember our Mom and Baba for her sense of humour, her hard working habits and, of course, the incomparable perogies, holupchi and borsch which came endlessly from her kitchen. A memorial service and interment will follow in early spring or summer when it will then be possible for her remaining family to join hands and say their final goodbyes.
