VERA SHUWERA It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vera Shuwera, February 22, 2008. Vera was predeceased by her husband Mike, mother Anastasia, father Hrynko, sisters, Mary Myshkowsky and Dora Kasian, and brother Wasyl in infancy. Left to mourn are her loving sons, Tom (Marlene) and Larry (Diana), grandchildren, Sabrina (Trevor), Ryan (Chandra), Allison, Brittany and Cayla, great-grandchildren, Caden and Fiona, sisters, Anne Mykytowich and Nadia Alexiuk, and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Vera was born September 4, 1928, in Caliento, Manitoba. Her early days were spent helping out on the farm, getting into trouble with her sisters and eyeing up the guy next door. On June 7, 1947, she made that guy - Mike Shuwera - her husband. It was not long after they welcomed sons, Tom and Larry. Together Vera and Mike farmed in the Caliento area, eventually buying her childhood homestead and making it their own. She also took a job as a nurse's aid at Vita Hospital while continuing to balance chores and family on the farm. She was an active and lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Caliento. In her last few years she humbly took on a task held close to her heart. Vera had a great talent for embroidery and her lasting memory to the church is the precious and meticulous needlework on the alter linens. Vera also enjoyed seeing the sights...from her Sunday drives with husband Mike cross-country, to special trips to British Columbia and Ontario to visit family - Vera even ventured as far as the Dominican Republic to be at her grandson's wedding! Vera was vibrant, feisty, and fun, with the energy of someone half her age! She loved her family, she loved to garden and she was never too busy to help, or as she called it, snoop-ervise. She loved the outdoors and shared that love with her whole family. Together we picked mushrooms, blueberries and nuts - we walked her big and beautiful yard discussing the flowers - we camped and fished - and we even had our very own camp cook and spotter during hunting season. Baba, we will miss your voice, loud with honesty. We will miss your heart, full of love. And we will miss your spirit, strong and vibrant. You are one-of-a-kind and we will always be proud to call you our Baba. Mom, you have left us for a better place and we know that Dad was waiting. May the two of you walk together in peace through the fields of Heaven. A come and go viewing will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at which time prayers will start at Vita Funeral Homes Vita Chapel, Vita, Manitoba. The funeral service will follow on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Caliento, Manitoba, with interment in the church cemetery. Vita Funeral Homes Vita Chapel, Vita, Manitoba, in care of arrangements. Pallbearers: Sabrina Jackson, Trevor Jackson, Ryan Shuwera, Chandra Shuwera, Allison Shuwera, Brittany Shuwera, Cayla Shuwera. Legacy of Love A wife, a mother, a grandma too, This is the legacy we have from you. You taught us love and how to fight, You gave us strength, you gave us might. A stronger person would be hard to find, And in your heart, you were always kind. You fought for us all in one way or another, Not just as a wife not just as a mother. For all of us you gave your best, Now the time has come for you to rest. So go in peace, you've earned your sleep, Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
