EDITH VERMETTE Peacefully, on February 23, 2008, at St. Boniface General Hospital, Edith Vermette passed away. Edith was born in Berlin (Germany). She was predeceased by her husband Alexandre and her parents, Franz-Johann and Genovefa Meissner. Edith is survived by the Furgale family; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gerard and Frances Vermette and her brother Eugene Meissner, along with numerous relatives and friends. Edith will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Edith came to Canada in 1951, was employed by the Grey Nuns (St. Boniface Sanatorium), and St. Boniface General Hospital. Devoted volunteer, she was past president and Honourary Life Member of the St. Boniface Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a major associate member of Brother Andre at St. Joseph Oratory of Mount Royal, Montreal, Quebec. She was honoured with Queen Elizabeth II Medal for Outstanding Contribution to the community and country. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. also in Holy Rosary Church. Interment will take place in Chapel Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Sincere gratitude is expressed to Dr. A. MacDiarmid, St. Boniface Hospital 5-B Ward and the nurses and staff for their care.
