RENEE DUECK On February 26, 2008, Renee Dueck passed away peacefully with her parents by her side after a long battle with leukemia at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She was born on March 18, 1984, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She was predeceased by two brothers, and her grandpa Reimer. She is survived by parents Raymond and Martha Dueck, and siblings Justin, Alayna, and Karalee. Renee was always active. When she was less than a year old we called her twizzler. When she was seven she decided to move to the bedroom downstairs, and in no time she had moved. After her high school grad, she joined Youth With A Mission, and traveled to Asia with her group, including a visit to Angkor Watt in Cambodia. She was on the YWAM wave tour through the US in 2005 when she was diagnosed with leukemia and successfully treated at MSKCC. She went to Capilano College in Vancouver for a one-year course in Film Production. She enjoyed all the jobs she got in the industry and was very disappointed when in October 2007 she relapsed and had to go to New York for treatment. She has been under the wonderful care of Dr. Steinherz and Dr. O'Reilley since then. Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Riverton Community Centre. Viewing Saturday, March 1 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Eastview Community Church, 3500 DeVries Avenue, Winnipeg. Thank you to all the wonderful caring doctors, nurses, and staff at MSKCC. A special thank you to Jane Mather for being a friend and counsellor to Renee. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street 339-5555

  • I never knew Renee. I received a book from my Church called "Find God: Living Water for those who thirst" and there is a tribute page to Renee that made me cry. I had turned away from my Faith as an eight year old boy, after the death of my father, and it took me almost 40 years to find my way back to His care, His love, and His Word. When I read Renee' tribute and looked into her life a little bit, I was deeply saddened by how unfair it seems. How our Lord could call such a sweet, deeply committed and devoted servant home and leave me here in her place. Me, an angry and confused little boy who would grow into an even angrier and more confused adult. I took me a long time to find my way back into the arms of The Lord and I think that Renee, and all the rest of the flock who have been called home to stand at His side, were directly responsible for finding this one lost sheep. Me. It is truly sad that Renee has moved beyond this earthly realm and I am disappointed that I cannot directly thank her for helping find me when I was lost but I will keep her in my prayers until the day I can hold her and say thank you for myself. I thank the Lord for never giving up on me and I thank the Lord for the gift of this life. More importantly, I thank the Lord for creating such beautiful, sweet children as Renee who never faltered in faith and kept true to His Word. She has become an inspiration to me for true life. True living. I love you Renee, my dear sister in Christ, and we will see each other someday. Until then, I will make you proud. - Posted by: Marty (Brother in Christ) on: Jul 25, 2015
