HARRY ROALD CAMPBELL (AMUNDSEN) February 6, 1919 February 29, 2008 It is with great sadness, we announce Harry's passing on February 29, 2008 at Victoria General Hospital. He is survived by his daughter Diane Frazer (John), and granddaughter Lynn; also, Jan, Wally, Lisa, Brittany and all the Cawson clan who made Irene and Harry part of their family. Harry was predeceased by his wife Irene, brother-in-law Fred, wife Beth and niece Darlene. Harry was born in Merritt, BC and adopted at birth by Angus and Ethel Campbell. He attended the Vancouver School of Art, skied with great friends, the Irwin brothers and was a cross country ski champion in the 1930's. When he volunteered for the Royal Canadian Air Force in wartime, Harry discovered that he had been adopted and that Harry Amundsen, his father and siblings Axel and Eleanor lived nearby. A true outdoorsman, Harry returned annually to BC to hunt and fish with his extended families and friends. Harry and Irene were married in 1942 before he was posted overseas. Upon his return, they moved to Fort Garry and remained there until 2006. After retirement from the railroad in 1984, Harry once again took up cross country skiing, and added golf to his hobbies. He was a true athlete, assisting Tim Burns of the Winnipeg Ski Club with a seniors' cross country ski program and playing golf at the Crescent Drive Golf club where he won the Low Net trophy on at least two occasions. Harry's final game last summer was with Jan, Wally and John. Some birdies, some bogies. Some game! In 1986, Harry and Irene took in a little dog. Until Misha's death in 2002, if you saw an older gentleman walking a little black dog in Fort Garry, that was Harry and Misha moving slowly. Special thanks to the staff at Thorvaldson Care Centre where Harry resided over the past year. To quote Harry, it was fantastic . Very special thanks to Doctor Munsamy and the fifth floor staff of Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Y1 or Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R5.
