Born: Sep 13, 1931
Date of Passing: Mar 01, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE GORDON September 13, 1931 - March 1, 2008 After a brief, but courageous battle with cancer, Elsie passed away on March 1, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre with family and friends by her side. Elsie will be dearly missed by her family: son Gerry of Winnipeg, daughter Debbie (Dave Downey) of Toronto, and son David, also of Toronto. Elsie was an extremely proud grandmother to Madison and Cole and they will miss her regular email and telephone chats and nurturing and loving ways. Her brothers and sisters, Erna (Ian), Dorothy, Barbara, Glenn (Darlene) and Eddie (Judy) brother-in-law Brian and sister-in-law Bess, were her bedrock. Family meant the world to Elsie and she enjoyed her many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Louis and her parents Edward and Katherine Law as well as her dear sister Marion. Elsie had many cherished friendships and she will be lovingly remembered for her feisty, spirited and generous nature. Elsie's life was full and her interests diverse: she was actively involved in grass-roots politics, an ardent fan of organ and choral music and a supporter of peace in the Middle East. Elsie was fiercely independent and passionate about whatever she believed in. She campaigned for the Canadian Cancer Society, to save the elm trees in River Heights, and rallied for politicians whom she believed would make a difference. She considered herself a social activist, and worked to make the world a better place. When her children were young, Elsie was always the parent who went above and beyond, baking the centre-piece cake every year at William Osler School's annual tea. Elsie was an accomplished gardener and doted lovingly on her perennial, annual and strawberry garden often plotting revenge on the rabbits who delighted in the fruits of her labour. Her friends and family were awed by her skills as a pianist and whether July or December, she was often at the piano singing Christmas carols with her family. Elsie spent her professional life in sales and accounting working for Singer, CN Rail, Electrolux, and Safeway. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Thomson in the Park Chapel, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Elsie's family is enormously grateful to Dr. Ahmed, and Primary Nurse, Erin at Cancer Care Manitoba, to the many marvelous home care workers who cared for her, and to the remarkable palliative care staff on 3E at Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bridges for Peace (www.bridgesforpeace.com). Elsie is at peace knowing she is going home to be with her Lord. Rest in peace, Mom. Elsie Gordon, a champion of the human experience ! A woman of great integrity, strength of character, tremendous inner peace; a woman, who lived her faith with an enviable knowledge of the Bible prophesies in the Old Testament and their fulfillment in the New Testament; a woman who longed to share the secrets of the inner peace derived from the hope promised and modelled by her saviour Jesus Christ : Elsie, what an honour to have been your friend. May your strengths and truths be passed on,and now lived through your precious children and beloved grand children. Sincerely , Liisa Jonson - Posted by: Liisa Johnson (Friend) on: Mar 07, 2008
