VICTOR PETER YALLITS June 28, 1924 March 2, 2008 On March 2, Victor Yallits passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital, with his family by his side. He was 83 years old. Victor was pre-deceased by his parents, Andrew and Mary, brothers Andy, John, Lawrence (Pratty), George (Butch), sisters Julia, Helen, Elizabeth and most recently his son, Glenn. He leaves to mourn his wife Wally, daughter Karla and son Keith (Sheri). He also leaves behind his cherished granddaughters, Trisha (Kevin), Jessica (Travis) and Meghan; great grandsons Tyler and Christopher; and numerous nephews and nieces. Vic was born and lived his entire life in Elmwood, 81 of those years in the same house on Herbert Ave. He was a hard working man. One of his very first jobs was as a labourer at Alsip's brickyard where he had many fond memories of working with his father and siblings. Being a people person, Vic eventually found his niche as a retail clothing salesman working at such stores as Thompson and Pope and Sears, the latter being the one he loved best and from which he eventually retired. Vic was a sharp dresser and could not go anywhere without someone knowing him. Vic had many loves. Family was number one, with his wife Wally at the top of the list. They spent 63 married years together and in all that time were never apart for more than a few days. They did everything together; playing music, sports, shopping, and various jobs around the house. They especially enjoyed the time spent at the cottage in Lakeshore Heights, near Grand Beach, with best friend Pepper, family and many friends. Faith and St. Gerard's Church were a big part of Vic's life. Over the years, he volunteered a lot of his time performing various tasks such as; making ice for the kids to skate on, delivering hampers to the needy, and finally being president of the Seniors Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and helped raise funds to build the first YMCA on Kimberly Ave. Another love was golfing with his buddies, which led him to become a founding member and the first president of the Elmwood Hard Knocks. The family would like to thank all the staff on N3W at Concordia Hospital, who showed much kindness in their care for Vic. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Alzheimer's Society can be made in Victor's name.
