JEAN MACDOUGALL DIXON (nee BOAN) After a brief illness Jean serenely slipped away on February 8, 2008 in Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan, BC. She has gone to be with her beloved husband Bill who passed away in 1985 in Winnipeg. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Carol Jean Masse and her son Alex Dixon; grandchildren, Laura Masse, Don (Tanya) Masse, Denis Pemmican, and Jerry (Trudy) Pemmican; great-grandchildren, Carter, Verna, Marcelene, Denise and John; brothers, Dr. Jack (Jean) Boan, and Dr. Bruce (Peggy) Boan; sister Zaida Gilchrist; sister-in-law Mabel Boan; brother-in-law Len Dixon; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was born on February 20, 1919 on the family farm in the Moose Jaw District of Saskatchewan. In the Second World War she met and married Chief Petty Officer William Dixon in Esquimalt, BC. It was a great and enduring love affair. Jean greatly encouraged and supported her children and grandchildren. She made a home for her father-in-law and also an elderly dear friend, Tom Rodgers. Jean was very active in the Presbyterian Church in Winnipeg - volunteering and singing in the choir. For many years she was a Girl Guide Leader. We were very proud of her for getting her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Winnipeg and learning to swim in her middle years. Jean loved sports, she was a golfer, tennis player and avid curler at Deer Lodge Curling Club in Winnipeg. She very much enjoyed the family cottage and friends at Red Rock Lake, Manitoba. She moved to Duncan, BC after residing in Winnipeg for 54 years. A memorial service was held at Sands Funeral Chapel, Duncan, BC on Saturday, February 16, 2008. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
