Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD ERNEST FIDDLER After a short battle with cancer, Don Fiddler, aged 84, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the Grace General Hospital. Don was predeceased by his parents Edward and Winifred and by his sister Dorothy. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his step-son Bruce Alexander and his wife Linda and granddaughters Jennifer and Kristine. He is also survived by sister Peg, brother Horace and numerous nieces and nephews in England. Grandpa was born at Staploe, Hunts, U.K. September 13, 1923. He served in the Royal Navy in the Second World War on the North Atlantic and at Combined Operations H.Q. in Washington, DC. A trained horticulturist, he immigrated to Canada to begin a career with the City of Winnipeg. He later graduated from the University of Guelph in horticulture to become Superintendent of Horticulture with City Parks and Recreation. Don and Margaret enjoyed many common interests. They wintered in Florida for several years and enjoyed many summers of fishing at their camp at Clearwater Bay, ON. His garden on Deer Lodge Place was where he loved to spend time. Don was always involved in his surroundings. The last six years were lived to the fullest at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, where he continued to be involved with gardens and trees and in growing his special' orchids. In recent years he was devoted to the care and well being of his wife Margaret. Grandpa kept close ties with his family overseas. He loved to tell stories of growing up in a village in the English countryside to his granddaughters, the apples of his eye. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 12 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, Aubrey Street entrance. Interment will be held in the spring.
