FRED GROSSMAN September 9, 1917 March 10, 2008 Peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2008, Fred passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 90 years. Remaining to forever cherish Fred's memory are his devoted wife of 20 years Josie; step-son Jim Freedy (Carolyn); grandchildren Chris (Tara), Joelle; greatgrandchildren Hayley and Emily; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Isabelle; brothers; Joseph, John, Frank and Adolph, sisters; Mary and Kay; and his niece Margaret. Born and raised in Lorette, Manitoba, Fred received his early education here. He then went on to St. Pauls College and Dominion Business College to complete his schooling. His working life started at Canada Packers Limited where he spent 28 years in many capacities, the later years as Office and Credit Manager. With a change of careers in 1969 Fred became the General Manager of The St. Alphonse Credit Union where he remained until retirement in 1981. It was at St. Alphonse Credit Union that he met life long friend Frank Pisa whom he cherished like a son. Fred kept busy in retirement as a charter member of The St. Alphonse Perish Council, a life member of The Knights of Columbus and served many years on the board of Victoria Arms Seniors Club. He and Josie had a fondness for bridge and were members of many clubs, their favorite being St. Paul the Apostle Bridge club. For many years Fred and Josie wintered in Magic Valley, Weslaco Texas where they made many lasting friendships. Fred earned the respect of all who knew him with his integrity, honesty and his gentlemanly ways. Each life he touched is better for have known him. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 13, 10:30 a.m. in the St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Mark Tarrant, presiding. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, 520 Osborne Street. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to the service. Pall Bearers will be Messrs. Chris Freedy, Paul Grossman, Walter Prichodko, Frank Pisa, Bill Grossman and Wayne Novak. The family would like to thank Dr. Albak and the nurses and staff of Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in Fred's memory to the charity of one's choice.
