JACOB VERSLUIS On March 10, 2008, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jacob Versluis passed away at Selkirk General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Hermina (Min) and brother-in-law Alec Postma, Jacob leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, daughter Marian Versluis, granddaughter Amanda (Rob) and great-grandchildren, Ashton and Gabriele. Jacob immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in October 1950 and married Hermina (Min) in 1955. He had been a dedicated firefighter from 1962 to 1992. Min and Jacob had enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the U.S.A. Time spent with family and friends was important, especially with his adopted grandson, Greg Ewasko. An avid sportsman, Jacob enjoyed curling, camping and fishing, and many good times were spent with friends at the Firefighters Fishing Derby. Jacob curled at East St. Paul Curling Club since 1960 and was also president of the club. He was active at the Fort Rouge Curling Club with the Winnipeg Firefighters, Masters at the Rossmere Curling Club and East St. Paul Curling Club, and President of the Pine Ridge Community Club from 1993 to 2007. His curling enthusiasm also included working and volunteering at major curling events, assisting at ice making at the Brier, Worlds and Junior's events. Jacob was instrumental in the building of the new East St. Paul Curling Club. He was also camp host at the Big Whiteshell for the past four years. Funeral service to be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street. Friends may call to pay their respects on Wednesday evening (tonight) between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
