HELMUT SEILER Peacefully on March 12, 2008, with his loving family by his side, Dad passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 79 years. Predeceased by his sister Frieda Kaiser and brother Walter, Helmut will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pauline of Winnipeg, daughter Renate Seiler of Palm Springs, daughter Karin Seiler (Tom Simms) and grandchildren Ashley and Laura all of Winnipeg, son Philip Seiler of Winnipeg and daughter Irene Seiler (Ken Joyal) of Vancouver along with many relatives and his beloved dog Sophie. Helmut was born in Eisleben Germany in 1928. He married Pauline in 1948 and together they immigrated into Canada in 1954, where they resided in Winnipeg for six years and then moved the family to Newton, MB. There he raised a family, started a business and enjoyed 47 years of his life. He loved living in the country among nature, sunsets and the beautiful fields of the prairies. For 23 years he had his own business, Newton Builders, and then he worked for the RM of Portage la Prairie as Building Inspector for 20 years which he often stated were the best years of his life! Helmut retired in 2003, spending his time with his family and his hobbies of fishing and traveling. He was a devoted husband, loving father and a wonderful Opa. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and introducing them to his joy of life. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, gentle manner, patience, generosity, sense of humor and friendly nature. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Ward 5B of St. Boniface Hospital with special thanks for the kindness of Dr. Kim Mulchey, Dr. Katie, and Sue Ann. Funeral Service will be held at McKenzie's Portage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. led by Wilma Shirriff. Private family interment is to follow at Oakville Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Helmut's memory to World Vision of Canada, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, ON L5T 2Y4.
