MICHAEL VINCENT BOTCHAR The family of Michael Botchar sadly announces his passing on March 10, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Michael was born July 1, 1920 in the RM of Springfield. He attended Melrose West School and was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Parish. On February 16, 1942 Michael married Mary Mazurkiewicz in Toronto and shortly there after he enlisted in the army with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment. Michael saw active service in Holland where he was wounded twice. After the war the couple started farming and raising a family in the Springfield area. In 1956, in addition to farming, Michael started working with CNR as a Carman where he remained for 26 years. Michael and Mary retired from farming and moved to Winnipeg in 1979. As a couple they enjoyed taking many trips across Canada, US and Europe, and spending time with family and friends. Michael was predeceased by his wife, Mary in 1989 and is survived by; children Rosemary (Leonard) Heska, Bernadette (Joseph) Staszkiewicz, Scott (Colleen) Botchar, grandchildren Serena, Leonard, Jeffrey, Darcy, Jennifer, great-granddaughter Tesa, sister Anne Sichello and brothers Joseph and Leon Botchar. Funeral service to be held Monday, March 17, 2008, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish, 264 Donwood Drive, Winnipeg, viewing at 10:30 a.m., followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Transcona Cemetery. The family wished to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Victoria General Hospital 5 South, for their care, kindness and support. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
